Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. was founded January 13, 1913 on the campus of Howard University by twenty-two collegiate women. These students wanted to use their collective strength to promote academic excellence and to provide assistance to persons in need. The sorority expounds on a Five Point Programmatic Thrust: Economical Development, Educational Development, International Awareness & Involvement, Physical & Mental Health, and Political Awareness & Involvement. All programs and initiatives are derived from these thrusts.
The Iota Kappa Chapter was charted on May 12, 1972 by nine collegiate women on the campus of Arizona State University. The Iota Kappa Chapter actively demonstrates and carries out the goals of the sorority through campus programming, community service, and social engagement.
